She led the others with her…

She led the others with her…

Attributed to Francis Grace, Clan Malkvaian

Eight little ducks that I once knew
Fair ones, evil ones, dark ones too.
But the one little duck with the feather on her back
She led the others with her quack, quack, smack.
Quack, quack, quack-quack, quack, quack
She led the others with her quack, quack, smack.
Down to the river they would go.
Wibble wobble, wiffle waffle to and fro.
But the one little duck with the feather on her back
She led the others with a quack, quack, smack.
Quack, quack, quack-quack, quack, quack
She led the others with his quack, quack, smack.
Home from the river they would come.
Wibble wobble, wiffle waffle, ho-hum-hum.
But the one little duck with the feather on her back
She led the others with a quack, quack, smack.
Quack, quack, quack-quack, quack, quack
She led the others with her quack, quack, smack.
Eight little ducks that I once knew
Fair ones, evil ones, dark ones too.
But the one little duck with the feather on her back
She led the others with her quack, quack, quack.
Quack, quack, quack-quack, quack, quack
She led the others with his quack, quack, smack.

The Four Humours

Last night I ran a session of our Montreal By Night spin-off series. These sessions are mainly to allow my players to explore elements of the long running story that they would otherwise not see. This session ended when the players concluded that they were actually all playing the same character.

The backdrop to this session was that each Player Character was unknowingly one of the four facets of an unnamed Nosferatu’s mind. These Player Character were representative of the Platonic humours of the personality, and had traits that were distinct to the humour (My Classics courses in University were finally useful for something).

Upon the realization that they were one and the same, the personalities united/reformed into the completed mind of the un-named Nosferatu. I closed the session by describing the next few moments of the Nosferatu’s life. As his mind reformed, he realized that he was captive, and badly beaten. He had moments until he was to be diaberlized by a young Lasombra named Destiny.

Prior to the session starting, I handed each player a two page backstory, which they read independently. As they were playing the same character, the backstories were mostly the same, with select passages that differed (to reflect the memories of each personality). I’ve printed them below for your entertainment.

[NAME]‘s memory is imperfect due to repeated uses of mind control powers, but [SHE/HE] was born in the city of York, during the last years of Henry VII of England. [NAME] grew up with modest means, but gained a measure of finical success, while acting as an informant (Spy) for Cardinal Wolsey, King Henry VIII’s Chamberlin. You reported against the King’s enemies in the north of England, and helped uncover the treason of the Duke of Buckingham. It was during this time that [SHE/HE] came to the attention of an even greater spymaster.

One cold night, an intruder came to your fortified home, just south of York. He spoke to you from the shadows of your bedchamber, and his words dribbled from his mouth as if it were full of food. He recounted every action that you took on the King’s behalf, including those you never reported. Impressed, you challenged him to show you how he discovered this, and to your horror he did show you. Your sire embraced you during the reign of King Henry VIII, and trained you throughout the reign of Henry’s three heirs (Edward VI, Mary I and Elizabeth I).

By the time Queen Elizabeth faced the Spanish Armada, you had nearly 40 years of tutelage at Samus’s (your sire), side, and your mind had nearly adjusted to your new and twisted form, as a Nosferatu. Your embrace brought with it the curse of Clan Nosferatu, an unjust series of deformities that stripped you of your human looks, leaving you as a hideously featured being. Even now, centuries later, you still avoid the eyes of others upon your form, using natural darkness and the powers of Obfuscate to cloak yourself.

For over three hundred years, you worked with your sire, Samus, uncovering threats to his interests in both England and later in the British Colonies of North America.

[PETRA] What began as a lark, eventually resulted in your sizable collection of artwork from around the world. When needed, you have sold a few pieces on the black market for great wealth.

[NERO] During your travels, you have met several (in)famous vampires, including; Sascha Vykos, Anatole the Prophet, Baylor the Justicar, and Mithras the Prince of London.

[AERAS] Traveling thrilled you, visiting Canada, the Thirteen Colonies, Hong Kong, Australia and India opened your mind to new possibilities. You saw patterns in cultures that had no contact.

[FOTIA] During a visit to the Colony of Hong Kong, you and your Sire took part in a Tremere ritual. You became immune to further blood magic as a result, but you became addicted to diablerie (the act of consuming the soul of another vampire) in the process.

During this time, both you and your Sire, defected from the far more strict body known as the Camarilla (the ruling vampire body of England) and joined the more Sabbat for its freedoms.

At the turn of the 20th century, Samus confided in you, age and vampire politics wore upon him. He was tired and he wished to settle in one place for some time. With his blessing, he sent you on to explore the Americas on your own. For the first time in nearly four hundred years you were free to do as you wish.

[PETRA] Suspicious of your Sire, and fearing this was a test, you carried on in his footsteps. You sought out Cardinal Strathcona, leader of the Sabbat in Canada, and acted as his eyes and ears in the Niagara region. You have identified a plot, against the city of Montreal. The Cardinal shares your fear, but you are forbidden to look into the matter any further.

[NERO] After a period of wanderlust, you elected to settle down. You began to study abnormalities in the Vampire condition. This lead to an in-depth study of vampire genealogy and traits that run through the bloodlines, and more than a few consultations with historians in both Mexico City and Montreal.

[AERAS] You celebrated with the freedom. You traveled widely, from Montreal to Mexico City, and reveled in the secrets and plots that they contained. During the Great Depression you offended Cardinal Desmoines of the Sabbat. He has placed a price upon your head, and actively sends assassins after you.

[FOTIA] Without the direction of your Sire, you have not been able to find a cause that you are passionate about. You have dabbled in several areas of study without satisfaction. In order to find satisfaction, you have even going so far as to sell secrets to the Camarilla Prince of Ottawa, a Tremere.

Now, at the turn of the 21st century you find yourself in a terrible situation. You traveled to the city of Montreal to consult with a noted scholar Aristotle deLaurent, as he needed information about York’s vampire population in the 1500’s. Instead of meeting him, you were ambushed by fellow Sabbat, and beaten into Torpor (a death like state).

Since then, your mind has been attacked repeatedly with Dominate and Presence. Now, with your memory shattered, and after months of interrogation you have been given an ultimatum by your captor. While you have paid close attention, your captor speaks to you from behind a spotlight. This prevents you from seeing his features.

[PETRA] This prevents you from seeing his features. At most you can tell that he is a Malkavian, with a sadistic side.

[NERO] At most you can tell that he too has studied some of the same bloodlines.

[AERAS] At most you can tell that he is even older than you, and knows some of the same vampires.

[FOTIA] At most you can tell that he is named Frank, which he politely told you.

At most you can tell that he is a Malkavian, with a sadistic side.

The ultimatum:
I will place you in a room with other prisoners. If you can make at least one confess their secrets, you will not meet final death at the next nightfall. I will release you, once I confirm their information. You know from the questions that you were asked before this, your captor wished to know the following from you:

1. You sired a mortal serial killer shortly after leaving your Sire. When last you spoke to him, he was living in Chicago among the Camarilla.
2. Your Sire once served a Lasombra Lord in Lincoln, England. His name was Faustino, though he disappeared before the 1500’s.
3. You sired a man by the name of Jackson. As he matured he joined the Black Hand within the Sabbat.

1. You have a nagging feeling that Aristotle’s ill-humored mentor, Plato is responsible for your current situation.
2. You have read of a bloodline of humans, who manifest unique powers when embraced. This only happens if they commit diablerie within moments of their embrace.
3. You have two childer. One is Camarilla, and one is Sabbat.

1. Your Sire once served a Ventrue Lord in Lincoln, England. His name was Baylor. He has a Childe who lives in Hong Kong, and another who lives in Atlanta, Georgia.
2. There is a family of eastern Europeans who settled south of York when you were mortal. Far more member of that family have been made into a vampires than any other.
3. You have discovered that you unknowingly Sired a Nosferatu who later became a Camarilla Archon. He does not know that you are his sire.
1. You do not fear Blood Magic. You are immune to it. This was achieved through a Tremere ritual.
2. Foreign Werewolves frequently attacked York just after you were embraced. The foreigners all bore a similar coloring of pure white or silver fur, and had Slavic accents.
3. Shortly after your embrace you sired a man who later chose the name, Rabbit. He works for the Camarilla.

A Tale of Two Brothers

The Holy Bible: King James Version

The First Book of Moses, Called

Cain and Abel

1 And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, 4 and said, I have gotten a man from the LORD.
2 And she again bare his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.
3 And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD.
4 And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering: Heb. 11.4
5 but unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.
6 And the LORD said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen?
7 If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door: and unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.
8 And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him. Mt. 23.35 · Lk. 11.51 · 1 Jn. 3.12
9 And the LORD said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother’s keeper?
10 And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother’s blood crieth unto me from the ground.
11 And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother’s blood from thy hand.
12 When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth.
13 And Cain said unto the LORD, My punishment is greater than I can bear.
14 Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that every one that findeth me shall slay me.
15 And the LORD said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the LORD set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him.
16 And Cain went out from the presence of the LORD, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden.
17 And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bare Enoch: and he builded a city, and called the name of the city, after the name of his son, Enoch.
18 And unto Enoch was born Irad: and Irad begat Mehu’ja-el: and Mehu’ja-el begat Methu’sa-el: and Methu’sa-el begat Lamech.
19 And Lamech took unto him two wives: the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other Zillah.
20 And Adah bare Jabal: he was the father of such as dwell in tents, and of such as have cattle.
21 And his brother’s name was Jubal: he was the father of all such as handle the harp and organ.
22 And Zillah, she also bare Tu’bal–cain, an instructor of every artificer in brass and iron: and the sister of Tu’bal–cain was Na’amah.
23 And Lamech said unto his wives,

Adah and Zillah, hear my voice;
ye wives of Lamech, hearken unto my speech:
for I have slain a man to my wounding,
and a young man to my hurt.
24 If Cain shall be avenged sevenfold,

truly Lamech seventy and sevenfold.
25 And Adam knew his wife again; and she bare a son, and called his name Seth: 5 For God, said she, hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew.
26 And to Seth, to him also there was born a son; and he called his name Enos: then began men to call upon the name of the LORD.
